If you have health problems, in the Netherlands you should first see a GP. This doctor can treat you directly or refer you to a specialist if necessary. If you need immediate medical assistance while your GP is not there, you go to the GP post. If the situation is life-threatening, call 112.
In the Netherlands, you can freely choose a GP. But there is a huge shortage of GPs in the Netherlands and also in this region. Some GPs are temporarily unable to accept new patients. So always ask first if the GP can accept you as a new patient when you come to live in a new city or village. Check this on arrival, not only when you need a GP.
